Taiwanese pianist Yi-Chih Lu, recognized early in his career for his virtuosity and expressive depth, has in recent years expanded his artistic scope to include arranging and composition, while actively championing the works of Taiwanese composers.

In 2022, Lu made his New York recital debut at Carnegie Hall, earning praise from critics for "a sweeping sense of lyricism" supported by assured technique. His talent had already been widely acknowledged in 2012, when his album My Chopin; My Brahms received the Golden Melody Award for Best Instrumental Performance. His recordings of Kurt Böhm's piano works were also highly acclaimed by Bayern 4 Klassik.

Alongside the standard repertoire, Lu has dedicated significant effort to promoting Taiwanese music. He has recorded albums featuring piano works by Su-Ti Chen and Chi-Lien Hung, and has been invited to perform in major concerts honoring composers such as Kuo Chih-Yuan and Su-Ti Chen.

As an arranger, Lu draws inspiration from the Lisztian tradition, transforming Taiwanese folk songs into virtuosic and expressive piano works. Since 2014, his arrangements have been published, and his 2016 album Zongzi features some of his best-known works. His arrangement of "Peach Blossom Takes the Ferry" has garnered over 300,000 views on YouTube. In 2021, his arrangement of "Longing for Your Early Return" for string quartet and soprano received recognition from the New Taipei City Culture Foundation.

Lu has also ventured into composition, setting Taiwanese poetry to music. His choral work Cabbage won a prize in the Taipei Chamber Singers'composition competition, and he shared credit for the song "Wake Up," which won the Hakka Melody Award in 2022.

Based in Taiwan, Lu has performed in 45 cities across Europe, the United States, and Asia, appearing at major venues including Carnegie Hall, the Musikverein in Vienna, and the Berlin Philharmonie. He has collaborated with leading orchestras such as the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, and Taiwan Philharmonic, as well as with distinguished conductors and musicians.

Born in Taipei, Lu studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where he received the Cziffra Prize, and later earned the Konzertexamen from the Berlin University of the Arts. A laureate of numerous international competitions, he currently serves as Assistant Professor and Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at Taipei National University of the Arts.
