To truly love music is to also understand the instrument—because every instrument contains a world of resonance, like a concert hall hidden within.

But what secrets lie within a handcrafted cello? Every step of the luthier's process is more than technical skill—it's an art form, a journey of aesthetics, precision, and deep craftsmanship. What essential techniques are involved in building a cello? At TWICF, we specially invited renowned luthier duo Chi-ling Chen and Emilio Kusi Crabbé—a husband-and-wife team brought together by their shared passion for instrument making.

Winners of multiple prestigious awards at the VSA International Violin Making Competition (USA), one of the most important competitions in the world, they will share their insights into the culture of luthiery, the aesthetics of handcrafted string instruments, and the practical craft of instrument making. Participants will also learn how to evaluate a high-quality handmade cello and gain a deeper appreciation for the art behind the instrument.
