Cello Multiverse 2.0 – Reimagining Classics and Honoring "The Sound of Taiwan"
Welcome to the cello multiverse! Following the great reception of the first TWICF's "Cello in the Multiverse," the second edition Opus 2 is back with a tour of five concerts with three curated programs. 1. Women's Voices: A concert program spotlighting the works of female composers from the 19th and 20th centuries, interpreted from the perspective of elite female cellists from France, Germany, and the UK. 2. Solo Journeys: From intimate baroque cello and jazz piano dialogues to the rarely heard masterpieces of great composers, and even a trip back to the 1970s to revisit the legendary collaborations initiated by Mstislav Rostropovich with some of the 20th century's most brilliant composers—this set celebrates the dazzling and virtuosic world of modern cello performance. 3. Finale – Taiwan's Voice: TWICF pays tribute to Taiwanese composer Shui-Long Ma on the 10th anniversary of his passing with a chamber work, and presents two exiting world premieres: A new work for voice and cello octet based on Hildegard von Bingen's "Caritas abundat" (from medieval Germany), and an arrangement for eight cellos of Dvořák's Symphony No. 8—both promising a fresh and thrilling sonic experience.
TWICF Brings Together Cello Greats – Masterclasses to Inspire Taiwan's Rising Talent
Now in its second edition, TWICF aspires to become Taiwan's leading platform for cello exchange. The festival gathers international celebrated cello masters and baroque specialists and in addition to their performances, numerous masterclasses in Taipei and Kaohsiung will offer young Taiwanese cellists and students the rare opportunity to learn directly from the masters, sharpen their performance skills, and broaden their international horizons.
Step Inside the Instrument – A Baroque Journey through time
To truly appreciate music, one must also understand the instrument—because the inner life of a cello is like a miniature concert hall. TWICF has invited luthier couple Chi-Ling Chen and Emilio Kusi Crabbé, brought together through their shared love for the craft, to lead a special workshop exploring the art and beauty of cello making.
Meanwhile, Kristin von der Goltz, descendant of a historic German noble family and a renowned baroque cellist, will hold a Baroque Cello Workshop. Through her masterful performance and insightful teaching, participants will enjoy a deeply immersive experience. Discover the elegance and expressive richness of the baroque cello as she guides you back in time to an era of powdered wigs, courtly splendor, and exquisitely ornamented music.
"Moments of Resonance" – Bring Your Cello and Play Along With the TWICF Artists
To make the festival accessible and engaging for cello beginners and amateurs, TWICF will host "Moments of Resonance" in both Taipei and Kaohsiung. Participants can bring their own instruments and join TWICF musicians in playing specially arranged versions of five beloved folk songs from Germany, France, the UK, Switzerland, and Taiwan. These moments of shared sound and musical joy create a fun and passionate space for learning and connecting through the cello.
And after the playing together there will be the rare opportunity to meet the artists and ask them questions.
